As part of our Fire Wise project, Eden Community Access Centre Inc has successfully completed local activities including:
1. Kiah Hall Firewise Gardens
2. “The Ranch” Firewise protection
3. Eden Community Pantry Firewise Species Showcase Gardens & seed collection site
4. Hosted Firewise Workshops in Kiah, Towamba, and Eden
5. Addressed local committees and groups on Firewise planting, seed collection and propagation
These activities have been delivered to to support our local communities to investigate plants that could potentially reduce bushfire risk.
By exploring the science and history behind fire-resistant, fire-retardant, and low-flammability plants, we have facilitated and empowered landholders to make informed choices when landscaping near built assets. Throughout the project, we’ve collaborated on species research, seed collection, propagation, and community-led natural resource management initiatives.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this important work.
This project is supported by the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife and has received grant funding from the Australian Government through the Preparing Australian Communities local stream. @fnpwaustralia.
The photo collages is from our most recent activity at “The Ranch” which included the plant out of over 700 firewise species.
