Bega Valley L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program

L2P and RYDA Join Forces to Empower Young Drivers in the Bega Valley.

Over three impactful days at Frogs Hollow, the Bega Valley Driver Mentor Program (L2P) teamed up with the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) program to deliver vital road safety education to more than 360 local students. This collaborative initiative marks another milestone in a long-standing commitment to supporting safe, responsible young drivers in our community.

The RYDA program, a well-established national road safety education initiative, focuses on equipping Year 11 students with the tools and knowledge they need to make smart decisions both as drivers and passengers. Through a series of interactive workshops and real-life scenarios, RYDA encourages critical thinking about the consequences of risky driving behaviours, with an emphasis on attitude and responsibility.

Since its introduction in the Bega Valley, RYDA has already reached over 7,000 students, thanks to the dedication of local volunteers and community partners. This year’s event was no exception, with community members stepping up to assist in all areas—from presenting sessions and cooking BBQ lunches, to helping shepherd students between activities.

By joining forces with L2P, a program that supports young learner drivers without access to a supervising driver or vehicle, RYDA was able to expand its reach and deepen its impact. The shared goal: to guide students “from risk to task”—helping them understand the importance of road safety and prepare for real-world driving experiences.
