Celebrating 25 incredible years of the Access Centre!

Staff, committee members, volunteers and community gathered at the Great Southern Inn to honour this amazing milestone. Huge congratulations to Clare and Carina, and to everyone who’s helped keep the dream alive. Here’s to the next 25 years of connection, support and community spirit!

The evening was a resounding success, with over 40 guests gathering to celebrate 25 years of the Access Centre. Peter Skelton, current Chair of ECAC’s Management Committee, warmly welcomed everyone and introduced Sid Donaldson, who shared the story of the Eden Foundation and the beginnings of the Centre.

Next, Clare Whiter—ECAC’s first Manager—reflected on the Centre’s humble origins and the societal changes witnessed over the past quarter-century. She emphasized the importance of remaining an apolitical organisation, allowing the Centre to be responsive to community needs and opportunities, free from political constraints. Clare praised the many committee members, staff, volunteers and friends who continue to nurture the heart and soul of the Centre, ensuring all who enter are greeted with warmth and support.
Peter Skelton returned to speak about the evolution of technology and his own experiences teaching computer classes —fitting, as the Centre originally opened as a technology hub. He acknowledged how the Centre has since expanded to offer a diverse range of programs and services, and looked ahead to the possibilities of the next 25 years. Peter then introduced ECAC’s current Manager, Carina Severs.
Carina expressed her gratitude for being part of such a special evening, thanking Clare and the Eden Foundation for their vision and commitment in establishing the Centre and guiding its growth. She noted how, despite a changing world, the Access Centre has remained a reliable presence—evolving from a modest local resource into a hub for advocacy, coordination and support, stepping up during major events such as the bushfires and COVID.
Carina highlighted key initiatives now delivered through the Centre, including the L2P Learner Driver Program and Sculpture Eden, and offered heartfelt thanks to the Committee, staff and volunteers for their continued dedication.
She also acknowledged Rae Bingham for her delicious cakes, enjoyed both during Open Week and at the evening’s celebration. Here’s to 25 years of service, support and resilience—and to the next 25 being just as meaningful, just as impactful.
