Scenic Drives

There's quite a selection of scenic drives around the Eden area.
Many National Park or State Forest roads are predominantly dirt. If you are not experienced with dirt road driving here are a few tips that might help you to avoid potential pitfalls.

If you would like to explore further, here is a link to a more comprehensive Sapphire Coast map which you might use to plan your own outing.

Ben Boyd National Park (Northern section) is off the Princes Highway 8km north of Eden. Follow Haycock Road to several scenic spots which offer easy walks as well as picnic areas and toilets. Haycock Rd is dirt and extends for about 12km to Haycock Point.

Ben Boyd National Park (Southern section) begins at Edrom Rd, 18 km south of Eden. Follow the signs to many attractions including Boyd's Tower, Davidson Whaling Station, Green Cape Lighthouse, Edrom Lodge, Bittangabee Bay and Saltwater Creek. Allow a good half day for a full tour.  Predominantly dirt roads within the park.

Tourist Drive 10 offers a circular 92km (40km of dirt) tour from Eden through forests into the hinterland and mountain foothills. Turn right off the Princes Highway 5km south to travel through the rich Towamba River valley to Burragate then to Wyndham. Refresh at the 1848 Robbie Burns Hotel before following Mt Darraugh Rd down to Pambula then back to Eden.

Nethercote Falls Round Trip (45km mostly sealed) follows Nethercote Road 1.5km south of Eden through Nethercote valley and on to Greigs Flat, then back to the Highway for a detour at Nethercote to Nethercote Falls via Back Creek Road. (Go straight at Nethercote Hall & turn right onto Pipe Clay Rd, then right onto Nethercote Falls Link Rd to the picnic area above the falls).

The Snake Track round trip (57km with 38km dirt) offers a scenic, rustic drive following the Towamba River from the Highway (turn right 13km south of Eden) through a deep, narrow valley to where it broadens out into rich farmland then back via Towamba Rd through the forests to Eden.

Wallagaraugh Forest Drive (75km with 35km dirt) begins 27km south of Eden and offers many picnic spots and short, easy walks, including Maxwells Flora Reserve with its beautiful rainforest. Rejoin the Princes Highway from Mawells Road 12km further south for return to Eden.
